Savage fires are continuing to burn throughout much of New South Wales and Queensland, where tens of thousands of hectares have been burnt to the ground.

This morning, 65 fires were still burning in NSW, 29 of which were not contained.

The NSW Rural Fire Service are particularly concerned about two major fires: one in Bees Nest near Armidale LGA, the other on Long Gully Road, Drake.

In Queensland, 51 fires are burning, one of which won’t be under control before Monday. Residents of Applethorpe have been evacuated and communities of Stanthorpe and the Gold Coast Hinterland have been told to prepare to leave.

Staff and volunteers here at Til’ the Cows Come Home want to help how they can.

“We’re so grateful that the property we utilise for rehoming in Mullumbimby remains untouched but we’re very concerned for the people and animals living in the affected areas” Donna Wild, founder of ’Til the Cows Come Home says.

“We want to get the word out that our headquarters is a safe place for anyone who needs to rehome farmed animals before it’s too late.”

In the past few days, dozens of Canungra residents have rescued animals from fire threatened properties at Binna Burra, less than two hours from our base.

They drove in convoy through the night to rescue horses, goats, alpacas, dogs, and chickens.

“If any of these animals need a place to reside before they are rehomed, we’re happy to open our gates to them, caring for them here until they are.”
