Saving animals and protecting the environment are our two main goals here at ‘Til The Cows Come Home. This is why our founder Donna Wild has created a strong Regenerative Rescue plan to help achieve them. With a decade of knowledge in animal rescue and vegan nutrition, Donna has the skill set required to lead the team in implementing this plan and helping both animals and the environment. After all, animals are here with us, not for us, and we need to look after our planet as best we can. However, the questions on everyones minds are ‘what is regenerative rescue?’ and ‘how is it achieved?’
What is Regenerative Rescue?
Firstly, it is common knowledge that mass farmed animals can cause havoc to the land when not managed correctly. Regenerative Rescue works to combat this damage, and enable the land to thrive through the animals natural capabilities instead. It does this through a combination of Holistic Management, Regenerative Agriculture and Vegan Philosophy. Ultimately, these three factors work together to ensure we not only save the lives of millions of animals across Australia, but also regenerate the soil of the land in which they reside.
How is it achieved?
• Holistic Management
Holistic management is a Greek word meaning ‘whole’. Within agriculture, it is a systems thinking method for managing resources that were originally developed for reversing desertification. Desertification is the process at which fertile soil turns to desert. Therefore, Holistic Management implements key strategies to keep the soil fertile. One of these strategies is holistic planned grazing which deals with integrating animal production (or in our case, animal rescue) with crop, wildlife and forest production, whilst ensuring the health of the animals, the continuation of land regeneration and also profitability. Holistic Management practitioners are trained to look at the “whole” of their operation and understand the relationship between finances, land and the people who manage the land. They set holistic goals which include defining resources, desired outcomes and the processes and systems needed to achieve those outcomes.
• Regenerative Agriculture
Regenerative agriculture is a conservation and rehabilitation approach to food and farming systems. It focuses on topsoil regeneration, increasing biodiversity, improving the water cycle and enhancing ecosystem services. This then leads to supporting biosequestration, increasing resilience to climate change, and strengthening the health and vitality of farmed soil. The process aims to capture carbon in soil and aboveground biomass, reversing current global trends of atmospheric accumulation. At the same time, it offers increased yields, resilience to climate instability, and higher health and vitality for farming communities. The system draws from decades of scientific and applied research by the global communities of organic farming, agroecology, holistic management, and agroforestry.
• Vegan Philosophy
The vegan philosophy is a way of living or working which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for any purpose. The animals we rescue are saved from cruelty, neglect and culling.
In summary, the more animals we rescue, the more nutrient-rich our soils will be thus the more regenerated our grasslands will become. This is done simply by managing the animals sufficiently and using regenerative rescue practices to replicate the animals’ natural habitat in order to enrich the land.
Finally, we also aim to finally end Australia’s crippling drought. Regenerative Rescue is the solution, and we have it in our grasp.
Here at TTCCH, we rescue in herds and flocks which helps provide the animals with a natural life, surrounded by their own kind as they enhance the health of Australia. We love seeing them do what they love to do most- graze with their family. Instead of culling when the animals viability descends, we urge farmers get in touch with us, as we can take the animals and provide them with loving human guidance. We believe a kind and holistic approach is the only way forward, and as a not for profit organisation we are here to assist these animals in their time of need.
• ANIMAL AGRICULTURE FARMERS
We know that no farmer enjoys the day that you cull the herd or flock. Let us take that day off your hands. All the while giving back to the animals who have been your bread and butter, giving back to the land that will support Australians for generations to come and give back to the produce farmers who are willing to move into Regenerative Farming practices.
• PRODUCE FARMERS
You benefit from adopting or hiring our Regenerative Rescue, Land Regenerators and services. Instead of tilling, or using chemicals and machinery on the land, contact us today to find out more about out competitively priced soil regeneration services. We are more than happy to provide information on how new season crop planting, land clearing, or fertilising can all circle right back to saving more lives and regenerating more soil for generations to come.
