Dear Loyal Friends, I need you to read this post in full. This is our urgent cry for your help. We just need to let you know how bad the situation is out there.
The drought is hitting our precious grazing animals really hard. As you know, we work with farmers and people who need to surrender animals they can’t afford, don’t have grass for, don’t want, etc.. and rehome these animals into loving homes as grazers or pets outside of the industry from whence they came.
We call it Farmer to Family…..
The last few weeks and months have been incredibly full on. Actually, that’s an understatement. The phone has not stopped ringing with calls for help. It pains us so much.
We know how tough it is out there with no sign of real rain and hay prices through the roof. It’s a really bad combination at the moment.
Calls for cows, lambs, hens to be rehomed keep on coming in and they are urgent! The list goes on. Our team are working around the clock, our volunteers are absolutely amazing…. dropping everything to try their best to answer the call. Even in the wee hours of the morning. However, it’s taken its toll on us. We have done a great job recruiting our “families” to take our precious animals. It’s amazing the generosity out there.
However, upsettingly the costs of transporting these animals from the farm to a better home is just starting to really hit us hard.
It costs $30 to transport one cow 30 kilometres to safety.
Just today we have over 13 calls for help from farmers wanting to rehome their cows, horses and rooster (gulp). This is just for one day and we lie awake at night thinking about all the other calls for help which go unattended.
So tonight, I’m asking you to help us raise $20,000 to give us some breathing room as we look to rehome and cover the cost of transporting 1000s of animals over the coming weeks.
Can you please donate just $5? It’s just the cost of your next cup of coffee in the morning. It will be the best $5 you spend this week and will help us save more lives.
I’m crossing everything 15 x over we get to our goal.
