Victoria, Uki, and Winton were spared from the dairy industry and escaped the heartbreaking fate most bobby calves face.

Taken away from their mothers shortly after birth, Victoria, Uki, and Winton have endured a traumatic start to life, a beginning no living being deserves. Victoria, Uki, and Winton were rescued from the harsh realities of a dairy farm. In an industry that often views calves as mere byproducts, many are stripped from their mothers shortly after birth, destined for slaughter or left to perish when deemed unviable.

Male calves born on dairy farms are commonly deemed as “waste” or “surplus”, as they offer little financial gain to the farmer. These calves are often “disposed of” on the farm or sent on a truck to a slaughterhouse.

Similarly, females born on dairy farms are often kept for future milk production – a life of being milked continuously before facing the sad fate of the slaughter truck once their milk production decreases at around 5 years of age. Many female calves, like Victoria, are born as “surplus” and are also deemed as “waste” when dairy farmers don’t need more female cows to raise for future milking.

Victoria, Uki, and Winton were among the fortunate ones to have been rescued; sadly, this isn’t the reality for hundreds of thousands of calves born on dairy farms each year. Thanks to the generosity of our community and donors, three more lives have been spared.

Now healthy and feeling cared for Victoria, Uki, and Winton are ready to find their forever home where they will be loved as companions, not commodities.

When little Qwill came into this world, she barely had a chance to take her first breath before tragedy struck.

Born on a farm and likely slightly premature, Qwill’s first day should have been spent close to her mother, learning her warmth, listening to her heartbeat, and feeling safe for the very first time.

Instead, she was caught in a tragic on-farm accident that left her with a fractured hip socket.

At less than a day old, she was taken to the vet to be euthanised. But fate had other plans.

Because the vet who saw her knew of Til The Cows Come Home, they called our team and said, “There’s a calf here who deserves a chance. Can you help?”

And because of your kindness, we could say yes.

Qwill required life-saving treatment and round-the-clock care. Because of our donors, that was all possible.

Today, Qwill goes for her daily strolls with her Foster Carers, something we didn’t know if she would ever be able to do

Qwill is now thriving and excited to start her life at her forever home, where she will be loved and cared for as a companion, not a commodity.

Most farm animals have a longer life expectancy than many domestic pets. Various breeds of farm animals can live beyond 20 years, which means their owners must be prepared for a long-term commitment that includes providing appropriate feed, meeting ongoing healthcare needs, and ensuring that they have suitable living conditions. Sadly, for these animals, their owner’s life circumstances can change, leaving them in need of a new home.

Rehoming a beloved companion is a difficult reality that many pet owners face, whether it be domestic or farm animals. While some owners may sadly give up on their companions, others will make every effort to ensure that these animals are loved just as much—or even more—in their next home.

Farm animals are at a high risk of being rehomed to someone who views them as commodities.

Thanks to the kind support and generosity of donors, Til The Cows is able to offer a safe rehoming service for farm animals, ensuring they do not end up in the wrong hands and will continue to be cherished as companions, not commodities.

Introducing Fida, lovingly known as Dottie, is an affectionate sheep ready to bring her unique charm to the right home. Fida may be renowned for her love of attention and doting nature, but she’s also a sheep who sometimes shows her affection in unexpected ways. With a little guidance, she is learning to embrace her softer side.

Fida’s friendly personality shines through in her sociable nature. She absolutely adores being around people and interacting with them, although she sometimes has a habit of bunting when she feels like she’s not getting enough attention. With positive behaviour reinforcement in place, she is learning to express her affection more gently.

Fida would thrive as a part of a grass-eating herd, where she can enjoy open pastures and the company of her fellow sheep, with human affection administered from a safe distance, such as through a fence or gate. Her unique character will bring lots of joy and entertainment, making her an exceptional addition to an open and spacious farm environment.

If you’re equipped with a loving heart and a safe space for Fida to roam and graze, this gentle and endearing sheep could be the perfect companion to enrich your herd and your life.

‼️Fida is best suited to a home where kids aren’t involved in daily farm activities, or adults with an existing medical condition. This is just to eliminate the risk of injury from any headbutting. However, if you are an adopter who can manage this risk, you are welcome to apply.

Approximately 19 million hens are suffering on egg farms at any given time in Australia to meet consumer demand – this number is difficult to comprehend.

Many of these hens on egg farms endure harsh living conditions, are subjected to overcrowding, lack natural light, and are denied the freedom to forage or feel the grass beneath their feet. Their physical and emotional well-being is ignored, leaving them to suffer in silence.

At around 18 months of age, after these hens have given all that their fragile bodies have to give and no longer meet the commercial egg-laying standards, they are typically culled and replaced with younger hens that will face the same fate.

At ‘Til The Cows Come Home, we believe that these hens don’t deserve to be culled. The very least that these hens can be given is a second chance at life– a life where they can experience love, compassion and safety- their worth valued beyond what they give.

Whether you are looking for companions (or companions with the bonus of eggs), we encourage you to give a rescued hen a chance and adopt today.

Rescue hens deserve a second chance where they can be loved as companions, not commodities.

Want to learn more about what really happens on egg farms, take a read of our blog here.

Throughout the year, we hold Rescue Hen Adoption Days in various regions across Australia. Because our rescue operations depend on when farmers have retired hens ready to move on – and when they choose to offer them an alternative to culling – adoption days can arise in your region at short notice.

You can view our Hen Rescue Adoption Day Calendar below, or click the link here to access it directly.

These sweet babies will soon be ready for their forever homes — submit your adoption interest today!

On dairy farms, baby calves are born into this world as the byproduct of their mother’s milk production. Their lives were worth nothing more than the milk it allowed their mothers to make. Their future was uncertain, but likely grim.

Just like humans, female cows need to give birth to produce milk. As a result, each year in Australia, over 400,000 calves are born on dairy farms and are deemed as “waste” or “surplus”.

Male calves are often “disposed of” on the farm or sent on a truck to a slaughterhouse within the first few weeks of their life as they offer little financial gain to a farmer. You might wonder why these calves are considered unviable. The reason is that they cannot be used for future breeding or milk production. With so many calves being born during ‘calving season’, it becomes unfeasible for dairy farmers to raise all of these calves to a valuable size to be sold at market for a worthwhile value.

Similarly, females born on dairy farms are often kept for future milk production – a life of being milked continuously before facing the sad fate of the slaughter truck once their milk production decreases at around 5 years of age. Many female calves are born as “surplus” and are also deemed as “waste” when dairy farmers don’t need more female cows to raise for future milking.

This is the heartbreaking reality faced by thousands of calves, day in and day out, on dairy farms across Australia.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, more precious lives have now been saved. In the coming weeks, most of the calves at our foster home will be healthy and looking for forever homes, where they will be loved as companions, not commodities.

Meet our new rescues, Victoria, Winton and Uki.
