Rescued from heartbreaking beginnings, Daryl, Oscar, and Hank are now searching for a forever home filled with love and care.
In Australia today, there are approximately 1.43 million dairy cows enduring harsh conditions on dairy farms. Just like humans, these cows must give birth to produce milk. Tragically, the heartbreaking reality is that hundreds of thousands of calves are born each year as a byproduct of their mothers’ milk production. Known as “bobby calves,” these baby animals are often deemed “waste” from the moment they are born and are commonly sent to the slaughterhouse or killed on the farm.
Mother cows grieve and cry for their babies as they are taken away from them within hours of giving birth or if they are ‘lucky’ a few days later, experiencing distress as they are separated. Meanwhile, the calves are left frightened, alone and often in poor health.
Oscar was separated from his mother just three days after being born, he was left frightened and vulnerable, his cries going unanswered as his mother desperately searched for him. We may never know how long Hank and Daryl were allowed to stay with their mothers, but one thing is certain—they had far less time together than they truly deserved.
Amidst the sadness and heartbreak, Daryl, Hank, and Oscar are truly among the fortunate few. Nearly two years after narrowly escaping the slaughter truck, they are still here today, living a life they almost never had the chance to experience.
Daryl, Hank, and Oscar were adopted into what was meant to be their forever home. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, they were surrendered back into our care. Friendly and handsome, these three steers are looking for a new home where they will be cherished as beloved companions, not commodities.

Daryl, Hank and Oscar thrive on human attention as they come running up to the fence to say hello as you approach them. Together they are described as friendly, playful, and deeply affectionate. Hank in particular loves scratches on his chin. Daryl is the outgoing one of the trio and Oscar just goes along with the flow.
Despite their size, they behave more like oversized puppies than cows with their friendly personalities. They’ve never shown aggression and are incredibly social, effortlessly bonding with goats, alpacas, and even dogs. They do have big horns, so their lucky adopter will need to handle them with care and grace as they navigate life together.
It’s rare that foster carers have the privilege of welcoming their rescue calves back into care nearly two years later, but Daryl, Oscar, and Hank were reunited with their foster carer and rescuer after all this time. Their original adopters have cherished watching them grow, but unexpected circumstances now prevent them from providing the long-term home these boys deserve.
Daryl, Oscar, and Hank are ready to find a loving forever home. It would be nice to have the trio adopted together, but after much observation in foster care, Hank could be adopted into another herd on his own as he is on the outer with the group. On the other hand, Daryl and Oscar are as thick as thieves.
Their ideal forever home includes a spacious, secure paddock where they can roam, play, and enjoy life to the fullest. They need loving humans who understand the care and attention cows require—and in return, they’ll offer endless affection and brighten your days with their playful spirits.
