Rescued before the ‘Bobby’ truck came, Firenze and Clyde have been given a second chance at life.
In Australia today, there are approximately 1.43 million dairy cows enduring harsh conditions on dairy farms. Just like humans, these cows must give birth to produce milk. Tragically, the heartbreaking reality is that hundreds of thousands of calves are born each year as a byproduct of their mothers’ milk production. Known as “bobby calves,” these baby animals are often deemed “waste” from the moment they are born and are commonly sent to the slaughterhouse or killed on the farm.
Mother cows grieve and cry for their babies as they are taken away from them within hours of giving birth or if they are ‘lucky’ a few days later, experiencing distress as they are separated. Meanwhile, the calves are left frightened, alone and often in poor health.
This is the heartbreaking reality thousands of calves face each day on dairy farms across Australia.
Firenze and Clyde once facing this horrible reality, are lucky to now be safe in short-term foster care. Thanks to the generosity of donors, two more precious lives have now been spared.
