Ainsley and Ridley were rescued from the heartbreaking fate that most male calves born on dairy farms face: the “bobby” truck.
Ainsley and Ridley were born into this world as the byproduct of their mother’s milk production – their life worth nothing more, a future uncertain.
Just like humans, female cows need to give birth to produce milk. As a result, each year in Australia, over 400,000 calves are born on dairy farms and are deemed as “waste” or “surplus”.
Male calves are often “disposed of” on the farm or sent on a truck to a slaughterhouse within the first few weeks of their life, as they offer little financial gain to a farmer, as they cannot be used for future breeding or milk production.
This is the heartbreaking reality faced by thousands of calves during calving season, day in and day out, on dairy farms across Australia.
Fate had different plans for Ainsley and Ridley. Rescued by our team, they were no longer facing a grim reality.
Ainsley and Ridley are lucky to now be safe in short-term foster care. Thanks to the generosity of donors, two more precious lives have now been spared.
Now healthy and feeling cared for, Ainsley and Ridley are ready to find their forever home where they will be loved as companions, not commodities.

Meet Ainsley and Ridley, a charming pair of calves, each with their own special personality.
Ainsley, the more outgoing of the two, is full of confidence and spirit. Since arriving, he’s eagerly embraced his new surroundings, following the other calves to explore and play. His gentle yet confident manner makes him a lovely mate, especially to Ridley, who’s a bit more reserved and still trying to get to grips with the big, wild world.
Ainsley’s favourite time of day is when he gets his milk, a comfort that gives him energy. He also loves receiving fuss and affection, which he returns with plenty of calf cuddles. As a big brother figure, Ainsley guides Ridley with his confidence, sharing his favourite pellets and hay, and encouraging Ridley’s curiosity for new tastes and experiences.
Ridley, on the other hand, is a shy but curious little calf. While he’s still getting used to the milk routine, his keen interest in pellets and hay shows he’s eager to explore and learn. With Ainsley by his side, Ridley will gradually grow in confidence, and with time, he’s bound to flourish in a caring, supportive environment filled with love.
Together, Ainsley and Ridley make a delightful duo, full of potential and heart. They thrive on companionship, both from bovines and humans, and would suit a forever farm willing to nurture their development and celebrate their milestones.
