Each year in Australia, over 400,000 calves are born on dairy farms and are deemed as “waste” or “surplus”. Beau and Benedict were two of those calves. From the moment they were born males, they faced an unimaginable fate.
Male calves in the dairy industry are often seen this way as they offer little financial gain to a farmer. Like many before them, they are often “disposed of” on the farm or sent on a truck to a slaughterhouse within the first few weeks of their life.

Beau and Benedict once facing this horrible reality, are lucky to now be safe in short-term foster care. Thanks to the generosity of donors, two more precious lives have now been spared.
Benedict hasn’t had an easy start to life after he became very ill while in foster carer. With quick action, access to a good vet team and a dedicated foster carer by his side, Benedict fought hard making a full recovery. Beau and Benedict are now healthy, full of life and ready to find their forever home. This is just the beginning of Beau and Benedict’s story, with the best chapters of their lives yet to be written.
