Four calves were rescued, but sadly, two were gravely ill and did not make it. The two survivors now serve as symbols of strength, survival, and resilience.
Each year in Australia, over 400,000 calves are born on dairy farms and are considered “waste” or “surplus.” Bryce and Stanley were two of those calves. From the moment they were born male, they faced an unimaginable fate. Male calves in the dairy industry are often viewed this way because they offer little financial benefit to farmers, as they cannot be used for future breeding or milk production.
Male calves are often “disposed of” on the farm or sent on a truck to a slaughterhouse within the first few weeks of their lives. This is the heartbreaking reality for thousands of calves each day on dairy farms across Australia.
Bryce and Stanley were rescued alongside their two other foster brothers, Barry and George. Sadly, Barry and George were too precious for this world and passed away. Barry and George deserved a better start to life; they didn’t deserve to become so unwell that they couldn’t survive, even under veterinary care and round-the-clock care.
While saying goodbye is never easy, and a fate we don’t accept, we find comfort in knowing they did not leave this world alone or in fear.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, two precious calves are thriving in foster care, and two others were given the best chance at life. Bryce and Stanley are ready to find their forever home, where they will be loved as companions, not commodities.
