The untold stories of free-roaming goats. In Australia, mustering is the process of gathering animals—like cows, sheep, or goats—across large areas of land, often using horses, motorbikes, dogs, or even helicopters.

Goats like these babies were once wild or free-roaming with their mother. Goats are mustered in Australia mainly because:

– Wild population control (Vaccination, desexing, or slaughtering– most common with goats).

– Meat and export – (Yes, mustered goats are often sold for goat meat, which is a growing export industry).

– Farm management – (To move, count, or sell them).

During mustering, goats are chased over long distances, and mothers and babies can easily become separated in the chaos.

Kids may be too small or weak to keep up, and if they’re left behind, they can die from starvation, dehydration, or predation. Even if taken together, separation stress is very high, as goats form strong family bonds.

When goats are mustered and taken into holding yards, mothers and babies may begin together, but the stress and chaos quickly tear families apart. In the rush of so many animals crammed into one place, tiny kids can be trampled, lost, or separated from their mums.

Even when they survive the muster itself, families are rarely kept together—sales and transport almost always split them apart. For animals who share deep bonds and rely on one another for comfort and survival, this forced separation causes immense distress and suffering.

This is what happened to these poor kids. They were never reunited with their mothers in the yards after mustering.

A kind soul got in touch with us, seeing that seven baby goats were orphaned and in need of bottle feeding. We don’t know what happened with their mums, whether they escaped and left the babies behind or were sent off to the abattoirs on the truck.

We can only imagine the trauma this experience has left these poor little ones with. They are now safe and in our care. These sweet baby goats have come from such trauma, but you can shape their future to be nothing less than a life filled with care and love. 🤎

Bruno and Gary have been adopted, leaving Forest, Merlin, Jack-Jack, Maleficent, and Esmeralda ready to find loving forever homes as companions, not commodities.

Meet our group of rescued goats in more detail, each with their own unique personality and charm, ready to bring joy to your life! They can be adopted as a single goat (if joining other goats), in pairs, or in larger groups.

Esmeralda: is the epitome of friendliness with a heart full of love. Her sweet personality shines as she enjoys getting close, offering gentle sniffs to your face while soaking up as much attention as she can. Her playful and curious nature makes her a constant source of smiles as she follows you around with her adorable antics. Esmeralda is happiest in a home that provides ample space to explore, companionship, and some pats. She is a social butterfly and gets along well with everyone, making her a delightful addition to any family.

Forest: might be little, but he’s a fighter after having a leg infection; he now thrives on the love and companionship of his human friends. This gentle, affectionate goat adores sitting beside you, enjoying pats and the occasional treat of milk. He’s the kind of buddy who wants to be around humans, especially when he’s not jumping and playing on a fallen log. Forest’s charming personality will quickly win your heart.

Jack-Jack: lives up to his name with his quick and agile personality. Though shy at first, once he’s in your arms, he settles down and becomes a calm little companion. He loves nothing more than to climb and explore with his friend, Maleficent. With time and patience, Jack-Jack warms up beautifully and will bring a playful spirit into your life.

Maleficent: is an explorer at heart, showing off her adventurous side as she climbs and investigates her surroundings. Despite her initial caution, she remains quiet and calm when handled and thrives in a patient environment that respects her gentle nature. Coupled with her sweet companionship, Maleficent is a wonderful match for those who appreciate a quieter, but adventurous spirit. She enjoys spending her time with Jack-Jack and Merlin, creating bonds of trust as deep as her love for wandering.

Merlin: is a thoughtful and gentle goat, initially shyer than the rest but no less affectionate once he feels safe. He’s calm and easy to handle and enjoys the friendships he’s formed with Jack-Jack and Maleficent. Merlin’s gentle heart makes him a lovely companion for someone who appreciates a quieter soul.

All our rescued goats enjoy the company of their fellow goat friends, but make bonds with other goats in no time if adopted into a herd. They would be best-suited with families who have the love to give, space to offer and an area full of obstacles to keep them stimulated.

If you’re ready to open your heart and home to one or more of these delightful souls, they promise to bring endless love and joy in return.

For now, you’ll find Forest, Merlin, Jack-Jack, Maleficent, and Esmeralda soaking up the sun and cuddles with their foster family. Safe at last.
