Rescued from different situations, Raisin was destined to be Wanda’s companion, to help guide her with her sight impairment.
Wanda was born into this world as a commodity, and her future was uncertain. Raisin on the other hand was loved from the moment when she was born, but unable to be kept by her owner.
Male and female cows are commonly seen as commodities by humans, their existence valued by their use and monetary value. Whether it be as commodities for their milk, offspring, flesh or fur. Once they have given all that their bodies can, they are often sent on a truck to a slaughterhouse or “disposed of” on the farm.
We aren’t certain what Wanda’s fate would have been without rescue, but are sure that it would have been grim. This is the heartbreaking reality millions of cows face in Australia and around the world.
Some male and female cows are loved family members like Raisin was, but this is just a small percentage. What makes some cows qualify as pets and others not, is decided by the perception of humans.
Though Wanda and Raisin’s destinies had different plans for them, both are now lucky to be safe in short-term foster care. Thanks to the generosity of donors, two more precious lives have now been spared.
Now healthy and feeling cared for Wanda and Raisin are ready to find their forever home where they will be loved as companions, not commodities.
