In Australia, millions of cows live on farms across the country. Most are treated as commodities, valued only for what their bodies can produce. Their existence as sentient beings – capable of feeling, forming bonds, and experiencing emotion – is too often overlooked.
Cows are raised for many purposes: for their meat, their milk, their hides, and even for entertainment. No matter the reason, most will have their lives cut short, with little opportunity to experience true freedom or affection. Even those treated more gently often meet the same heartbreaking end.

Willow’s story is different.
She was raised on a farm, but when the farmer decided to move on, she was left behind. Why she wasn’t sold is unknown, but we are grateful that her life continued. With no one assigned to care for her, a kind-hearted person stepped in and took Willow into her care – and into her heart. It soon became clear that Willow was not just one life, but two: she was carrying an unborn calf.
While many might have seen Willow as a financial opportunity, her rescuer couldn’t bear the thought of harm coming to her or her baby. Unable to keep Willow herself, she was determined to find her a safe and loving future.
Amid the sadness faced by so many other cows, Willow and her calf, Hazel, are among the fortunate few. They are now living safely and freely, able to experience the world as they deserve while they wait for the next chapter of their journey – their forever home.

– Willow experienced a retained placenta after giving birth, which was treated and removed by a veterinarian. She is fine and well.
