A big part of what we do here at ‘Til The Cows Come Home is searching high and wide for the perfect Foster Carers.
Foster Carers are the backbone of everything we do and without them, we would not have been able to rescue the over 7,000 animals and counting.
Every year, millions of animals in the agriculture industry are killed – not just those used for meat or food products.
As a result of factory farming, countless animals are considered ‘waste’ and are killed because they will not produce monetary gain for farmers. The cost of feeding and rearing animals can exceed the profit a farmer can make from them. It is then that they are deemed unviable, at any time a farmer can legally deem an animal as waste.
For unwanted calves, a common practice in Australia includes bludgeoning day-old calves with a hammer to the head. Unwanted chicks are often gassed or macerated (blending alive) at 18 months old (a quarter of their natural life span).
‘Til The Cows Come Home created foster programs for these unwanted animals to give them a second chance at a happy and long life.
These include a whole host of farmed animals including calves, horses, pigs, and goats that would otherwise be abandoned or killed. We give farmers an option to surrender these animals to us, after which they are transported by one of our local drivers to the nearest Foster Carer.
With the support of our generous donors, Foster Carers selflessly open up their hearts and homes to these animals, providing shelter, lots of love and managing vet care
Foster Carers are vital in providing rescued animals with a safe, loving, and nurturing environment while they wait to be adopted.
Heartbreakingly, many animal rescue charities are forced to euthanise animals in their care due to costs and overcrowding. At ‘Til The Cows Come Home, we are proud that we have never had to do this.
This is only possible with our foster care system. Our foster homes across Australia allow animals as much time as needed to be matched to suitable adopters. This is why it’s so crucial that we have a strong network of Foster Carers.
So, to our incredible Foster Carers – thank you! None of this would be possible without you.
