Gertie’s story begins in the harshest of places. She entered the world at the sale yards—just hours before her mother was due to be sent to slaughter. Had she been born even an hour later, we don’t know what would have happened.

A kind-hearted rescuer saw that Gertie was left alone, waiting to be euthanised. Where many may simply turn away, blanketed by the excuse of “this is how it is always done”,– they chose compassion and saved her life.

The first priority was keeping Gertie alive. So the kind souls secured her rescue with the sale yard. They took her to their backyard, into their home, where they knew she could not stay, but at least she was safe in the meantime.

Then, they heard about ‘Til The Cows Come Home and got in touch with our team seeking help to take over her care.

Gertie made the long journey to one of our foster homes straight away.

After spending time in foster care, she was adopted by a lovely person who had big dreams of giving Gertie a forever home. Unfortunately, things took a turn, and her adopter faced the heartbreaking decision to return Gertie to Til The Cows Come Home – keeping Gertie’s best interests in mind.

Gertie returned to her original foster home as though she had never left, settling in with a quiet sense of belonging. Her resilience to this change speaks volumes- a gentle reminder of the profound difference compassion and care can make, as Gertie knew that she was back in a safe place.

Gertie is ready to find her new home as a companion, not a commodity.

Every year, over 22 million lambs are slaughtered in Australia alone. This staggering number doesn’t account for the countless lives lost before they even reach slaughter—lambs who fail to thrive after birth and are left for death, die during birth, or are dispatched on farms being deemed “unviable”.

Lambs are primarily valued for their flesh and are slaughtered as babies at just 6 to 8 months old, never experiencing the fullness of life. When given the opportunity to live a full life, sheep can live 10 to 12 years on average, and some can even reach 20 years.

Lambs endure immense suffering during their short time on earth. It is common for lambs to undergo painful procedures such as live lamb cutting (Muesing) and tail docking, often without any pain relief. After enduring these painful treatments, they are then loaded and transported for many hours to reach their final destination: the slaughterhouse.

While live lamb cutting has been banned in New Zealand due to its cruelty, it remains legal in Australia and many other countries.

Though some lambs are fortunate enough to be rescued or find loving homes, like Zebby, sadly, these cases are the exception to the millions that don’t. Those who cannot be saved hold a place in our hearts and aren’t forgotten.

Thanks to the generosity of our community and donors, one more life has been saved.

Now healthy and feeling cared for, Zebby is ready to find their forever home where he will be loved as a companion, not a commodity.

Meet Zebby, the adorable little lamb who is a true pocket rocket, bursting with energy and always ready for his next adventure!

Zebby was found alone in a paddock. After attempts to find his human family, the people who found him were unable to reunite him. They took the little lamb to a local vet clinic. Zebby wasn’t in a good way, so they ran some tests and decided that the best treatment plan for him was a plasma infusion, as they don’t believe he received much, if any, colostrum from his Mum. This was the point when the vet had to see if anyone wanted to take this lamb on and fund his required treatment. With the support of donors, we were able to take this lamb into our care and take over his ownership, ensuring he would get the infusion he needed and a loving life going forward.

Fast forward to now, Zebby has a zest for life that’s infectious and will brighten your day with his joyful antics. Zebby has a strong need for companionship, so his new home should include another animal who enjoys lively play and plenty of affection.

Zebby is still bottle feeding but is beginning to munch on oaten chaff and explore the taste of Lucerne chaff. He is also progressively drinking small amounts of water from a bucket. His early plasma infusion has set him up for excellent health, and he is hitting all his milestones.

Zebby loves to explore and meet new animal friends, and his daily routine now includes wandering down to the other animals where he sweetly greets each one through the fence. His enthusiasm for companionship is heartwarming. With his playful personality, Zebby needs a household where he can share his adventures and boundless love with a suitable furry companion.

Zebby, affectionately nicknamed Zeb-Zeb or Zebinator, brings immense joy and laughter to his foster family. While it will be tough to part with him, Zebby is ready to enrich a new home with his love and spirit.

If you’re looking for a vibrant and affectionate companion, Zebby could be the perfect addition to your family, filling each day with love and delightful adventures.

Timon and Pumbaa were taken from their mothers shortly after birth – a beginning no living being deserves. They were rescued from the brutal realities of a dairy farm. In an industry that often sees calves as nothing more than byproducts of their mothers’ milk, the unwanted ones are penned aside, waiting for the “bobby truck” to take them to the slaughterhouse, or they are killed on the farm. Over 400,000 calves born on dairy farms each year face this heartbreaking end.

Male calves born on dairy farms are often considered ‘waste” or “surplus’ because they provide little financial benefit to the dairy farmer, as they can’t be reared and used as future milkers. While some female calves stay on the farm for future milking, there is frequently a surplus of females born. These calves face the same fate as the males. 💔

Timon and Pumbaa were among the lucky ones to be rescued, but sadly, this isn’t the reality for hundreds of thousands of calves born on dairy farms each year. Thanks to the generosity of our community and donors, two more lives have been saved.

Now healthy and feeling cared for, Timon and Pumbaa are ready to find their forever home where they will be loved as companions, not commodities.

Meet Timon and Pumbaa, an inseparable duo of sweet calves eager to bring joy into your heart and home. These two boys have been the picture of health and energy, spreading happiness and enthusiasm in their foster home. With Pumbaa being the more confident of the two, both calves are gradually learning to trust their human carers, and their curiosity knows no limits. Be ready for a warm welcome from Timon and Pumbaa at milk time, as they get particularly excited when it’s time to be fed.

Timon and Pumbaa love to go for a run around, often joined by their lamb mate, Zebby. They are very curious about the older cows, pigs, goats, chickens, and even the foster family dog.

Huxley and Nyles were born into this world as the byproduct of their mother’s milk production – their life worth nothing more, a future uncertain.

Just like humans, female cows need to give birth to produce milk. As a result, each year in Australia, over 400,000 calves are born on dairy farms and are deemed as “waste” or “surplus”.

Male calves are often “disposed of” on the farm or sent on a truck to a slaughterhouse within the first few weeks of their life, as they offer little financial gain to a farmer, as they cannot be used for future breeding or milk production.

This is the heartbreaking reality faced by thousands of calves during calving season, day in and day out, on dairy farms across Australia.

Fate had different plans for Huxley and Nyles. Rescued by our team, they were no longer facing a grim reality.

Huxley and Nyles are lucky to now be safe in short-term foster care. Thanks to the generosity of donors, two more precious lives have now been spared.

Now healthy and feeling cared for, Huxley and Nyles are ready to find their forever home where they will be loved as companions, not commodities.

Benson and Arthur were born into this world as the byproduct of their mother’s milk production – their life worth nothing more, a future uncertain.

Fate had different plans for Benson and Arthur. Rescued by our team, they were no longer facing a grim reality.

Benson and Arthur are lucky to now be safe in short-term foster care. Thanks to the generosity of donors, two more precious lives have now been spared.

Now healthy and feeling cared for, Benson and Arthur are ready to find their forever home where they will be loved as companions, not commodities.

In Australia, millions of cows live on farms across the country. Most are kept in captivity and seen as commodities – valued only for what their bodies can produce. Their existence as sentient beings, capable of feeling and forming bonds, is too often overlooked.

Cows are raised for many reasons: for their meat, their milk, their hides, and even for entertainment. No matter their purpose, most will have their lives cut short, with little chance to experience true freedom or affection. Even those treated more gently still meet the same heartbreaking end.

Despite their intelligence and emotional intelligence, cows are frequently underestimated. Much like dogs or cats, they can form strong social connections and experience joy, fear, and grief.

Norman and Tully, two rescued calves, once faced uncertain and heartbreaking fates they did not deserve. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and supporters, they were given a second chance at life.

Today, amidst the sadness that so many others still face, Norman and Tully are among the fortunate few living safely and freely, experiencing the world as they should have all along.

Now, they are ready to find their forever home. A place where they will be loved as companions, not commodities.

Meet Norman and Tully, two adorable cow companions looking for a loving home. These two are sure to capture your heart with their resilient spirit and gentle personalities.

Norman is the most gentle giant. With a personality as lovable as his size, he’s happy to munch away while taking a curious interest in the world around him. Although he prefers interactions on his own terms, he occasionally delights in a good scratch. Norman’s cleverness shines as he’s even figured out how to open the chain latch on his pen. Reinforcing gentle interactions will be key as he continues to grow into a (very) big, strong boy. His transformation from a vulnerable calf, uncertain he would survive, to a thriving companion is a testament to his resilient spirit and the joy he brings to those around him.

Tully is a warm and endearing girl who is blossoming in confidence each day. She values the companionship of a confident, social friend like Norman, who will undoubtedly help her continue to thrive. Tully’s appetite has steadily increased since her surgery, making her beautiful coat look shinier than ever. Tully will accept a scratch while eating, showing her potential to form a deep, lasting bond with her new family. Watching her grow into herself and her surroundings will be part of what makes adopting her so special.

Norman and Tully are a delightful duo offering character, companionship, and charm to anyone lucky enough to welcome them into their lives. An ideal home for them would provide space to roam and play together, allowing Norman to indulge his curiosity and Tully to grow into her newfound confidence. With patience, love, and a nurturing environment, they will surely enrich the lives of those who welcome them into their family.

If you have space in your heart and home, click the ‘Apply to adopt‘ button below.

By opening your home to Norman and Tully, not only do you gain the joy of adding companions to your life, but your decision to adopt also has a life-changing impact on the lives of other calves. For every calf adopted, another can be rescued.

Room for only one? 🐮 We might consider separating Norman and Tully for the right home. While they are enjoying each other’s company now, separating them at this stage wouldn’t be an issue. However, this could change at any time at the foster carers’ discretion, depending on how their bond develops. Please send an inquiry to find out more!

In Australia, millions of cows live on farms across the country. Most are treated as commodities, valued only for what their bodies can produce. Their existence as sentient beings – capable of feeling, forming bonds, and experiencing emotion – is too often overlooked.

No matter the reason, most will have their lives cut short, with little opportunity to experience true freedom or affection. Even those treated more gently often meet the same heartbreaking end.

Despite their intelligence and emotional depth, cows are frequently underestimated. Much like dogs or cats, they form strong social bonds and experience joy, fear, and grief.

Willow’s story is different.

She was raised on a farm, but when the farmer decided to move on, she was left behind. Why she wasn’t sold is unknown, but we are grateful that her life continued. With no one assigned to care for her, a kind-hearted person stepped in and took Willow into her care – and into her heart. It soon became clear that Willow was not just one life, but two: she was carrying an unborn calf.

While many might have seen Willow as a financial opportunity, her rescuer couldn’t bear the thought of harm coming to her or her baby. Unable to keep Willow herself, she was determined to find her a safe and loving future.

Amid the sadness faced by so many other cows, Willow and her calf, Hazel, are among the fortunate few. They are now living safely and freely, able to experience the world as they deserve while they wait for the next chapter of their journey – their forever home.

Willow and Hazel are ready to be welcomed into a home as loved companions, not commodities. 🤎

Willow is a sweet and gentle cow with Angus characteristics, and she is a devoted mother to her lively calf, Hazel. Her affectionate nature towards her baby showcases her strong maternal instincts.

Every year, thousands of farm animals are born through breeding programs designed for various purposes, most commonly for their milk, offspring, meat, or fur. A small fraction of farm animals that are born in breeding programs get to experience a happy, loving life, becoming cherished companions and remaining safe from the moment they are born.

In the world of breeding animals, it is inevitable that some animals are born with physical or genetic deficiencies. These can range from minor to severe. On commercial farms, animals that fail to thrive or meet perfection standards are often quickly “disposed of.” On smaller farms, breeders are faced with the difficult decision of whether the time, care, and financial resources required to support an animal with special needs are feasible.

Willow and Maple were born into a world that once questioned their right to exist in harmony. We can’t share all the details of their rescue, but we know that thanks to the generosity of donors, Willow and Maple are safe and they’ll have a future filled with harmony and love.

Willow and Maple are ready to find their forever home, where they will be loved as a companion, not commodities.

In Australia, millions of cows live on farms across the country. Most are as commodities – valued only for what their bodies can produce.

Amidst the sadness that so many others still face, Maggie is among the fortunate minority living safely and freely, experiencing the world as she should have all along. The farmer at the farm Maggie was born on wanted her to have a chance at a loved life.

Maggie is ready to find a home as a loved companion. 🤎

Despite their intelligence and emotional intelligence, cows are frequently underestimated. Much like dogs or cats, they can form strong social connections and experience joy, fear, and grief.

Paddy and Summer, two rescued cows, once faced uncertain and heartbreaking fates they did not deserve. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and supporters, they were given a second chance at life.

Today, amidst the sadness that so many others still face, Paddy and Summer are among the fortunate few living safely and freely, experiencing the world as they should have all along.

Now, they are ready to find their forever home. A place where they will be loved as companions, not commodities.

Meet Summer and Paddy, a delightful pair of rescued cows who are eager to find a loving new family. These two have unique stories and personalities, each bringing something special to your home.

Paddy, the charming calf, is a gentle soul who thrives on human interaction. He is a friendly boy who enjoys attention and will call out for love the moment he sees you coming. Paddy loves a good scratch and is easy to handle, making him a joy to be around and a perfect companion for someone ready to give him the love he craves. His calm demeanor and endearing nature have won the hearts of many, and he is sure to capture yours as well.

Summer, on the other hand, has had a tougher start in life. At just 9 months old, she is the size of a 3- to 4-month-old due to her stunted growth. Though she may be small for her age and initially shy, Summer is full of potential. She is on a journey of learning to trust people and is slowly blossoming into a sweet companion. With a little patience, some delicious pellets, and a lot of love, Summer is sure to warm up to you and become a cherished member of your family.

Both Summer and Paddy would flourish in an environment where they can roam freely and enjoy exploring paddocks. They would be perfect for anyone with a big heart and a sizeable acreage, and who is ready to welcome two affectionate and loving cows.
