Every year, over 22 million lambs are slaughtered in Australia alone. This staggering number doesn’t account for the countless lives lost before they even reach slaughter—lambs who fail to thrive after birth and are left for death, die during birth, or are dispatched on farms being deemed “unviable”.

Lambs are primarily valued for their flesh and are slaughtered as babies at just 6 to 8 months old, never experiencing the fullness of life. When given the opportunity to live a full life, sheep can live 10 to 12 years on average, and some can even reach 20 years.

Lambs endure immense suffering during their short time on earth. It is common for lambs to undergo painful procedures such as live lamb cutting (Muesing) and tail docking, often without any pain relief. After enduring these painful treatments, they are then loaded and transported for many hours to reach their final destination: the slaughterhouse.

While live lamb cutting has been banned in New Zealand due to its cruelty, it remains legal in Australia and many other countries.

Though some lambs are fortunate enough to be rescued or find loving homes, like Zebby, sadly, these cases are the exception to the millions that don’t. Those who cannot be saved hold a place in our hearts and aren’t forgotten.

Thanks to the generosity of our community and donors, one more life has been saved.

Now healthy and feeling cared for, Zebby is ready to find their forever home where he will be loved as a companion, not a commodity.

Meet Zebby, the adorable little lamb who is a true pocket rocket, bursting with energy and always ready for his next adventure!

Zebby was found alone in a paddock. After attempts to find his human family, the people who found him were unable to reunite him. They took the little lamb to a local vet clinic. Zebby wasn’t in a good way, so they ran some tests and decided that the best treatment plan for him was a plasma infusion, as they don’t believe he received much, if any, colostrum from his Mum. This was the point when the vet had to see if anyone wanted to take this lamb on and fund his required treatment. With the support of donors, we were able to take this lamb into our care and take over his ownership, ensuring he would get the infusion he needed and a loving life going forward.

Fast forward to now, Zebby has a zest for life that’s infectious and will brighten your day with his joyful antics. Zebby has a strong need for companionship, so his new home should include another animal who enjoys lively play and plenty of affection.

Zebby is still bottle feeding but is beginning to munch on oaten chaff and explore the taste of Lucerne chaff. He is also progressively drinking small amounts of water from a bucket. His early plasma infusion has set him up for excellent health, and he is hitting all his milestones.

Zebby loves to explore and meet new animal friends, and his daily routine now includes wandering down to the other animals where he sweetly greets each one through the fence. His enthusiasm for companionship is heartwarming. With his playful personality, Zebby needs a household where he can share his adventures and boundless love with a suitable furry companion.

Zebby, affectionately nicknamed Zeb-Zeb or Zebinator, brings immense joy and laughter to his foster family. While it will be tough to part with him, Zebby is ready to enrich a new home with his love and spirit.

If you’re looking for a vibrant and affectionate companion, Zebby could be the perfect addition to your family, filling each day with love and delightful adventures.
