With a heavy heart, Gertie has been returned to our care by her adopter. Gertie is now looking for a new home with a cow friend.
Gertie’s story begins in the harshest of places. She entered the world at the sale yards—just hours before her mother was due to be sent to slaughter. Had she been born even an hour later, we don’t know what would have happened.
A kind-hearted rescuer saw that Gertie was left alone, waiting to be euthanised. Where many may simply turn away, blanketed by the excuse of “this is how it is always done”,– they chose compassion and saved her life.
The first priority was keeping Gertie alive. So the kind souls secured her rescue with the sale yard. They took her to their backyard, into their home, where they knew she could not stay, but at least she was safe in the meantime.
Then, they heard about ‘Til The Cows Come Home and got in touch with our team seeking help to take over her care.
Gertie made the long journey to one of our foster homes straight away.
After spending time in foster care, she was adopted by a lovely person who had big dreams of giving Gertie a forever home. Unfortunately, things took a turn, and her adopter faced the heartbreaking decision to return Gertie to Til The Cows Come Home – keeping Gertie’s best interests in mind.
Gertie returned to her original foster home as though she had never left, settling in with a quiet sense of belonging. Her resilience to this change speaks volumes- a gentle reminder of the profound difference compassion and care can make, as Gertie knew that she was back in a safe place.
Gertie is ready to find her new home as a companion, not a commodity.
