Can you welcome Dottie & Daisy into your home?

Born on a dairy farm, Dottie and Daisy’s fate was decided from the very start – were they considered valuable or not? In an industry that often views calves as mere byproducts, many are stripped from their mothers shortly after birth, destined for slaughter or left to perish when deemed unviable.

Females born on dairy farms are often kept for future milk production – a life of being milked continuously before facing the sad fate of the slaughter truck once their milk production decreases at around 5 years of age. Many female calves, like Dottie and Daisy, are born as “surplus” and are also deemed as “waste” when dairy farmers don’t need more female cows to raise for future milking.

Dottie and Daisy were among the fortunate ones to have been rescued; sadly, this isn’t the reality for hundreds of thousands of calves born on dairy farms each year. Thanks to the generosity of our community and donors, two more lives have been spared.

After spending the past four years in foster care, Dottie and Daisy are being rehomed to make space for more rescues in need. A full foster home can’t accommodate other animals waiting for help. Thanks to a caring and dedicated team, Dottie and Daisy will soon move to a new, loving home where they’ll continue to be cherished as companions, not commodities.

Meet Dottie and Daisy, a sweet duo of confident, sassy heifers looking for a new family to call their own. Full of personality and charm, these girls keep life entertaining and are sure to make a lasting impression.

Daisy is the more outgoing of the pair and absolutely loves human attention. She’ll happily soak up head scratches, pats all over, and is content to sit quietly beside you, enjoying your company. Dottie, on the other hand, is a little more reserved. While she also enjoys head scratches and affection, it’s always on her own terms, and she’s not one to sit close by like Daisy.

Together, Dottie and Daisy confidently rule their herd of steers. They’re full of sass and aren’t afraid to let everyone know who’s in charge, especially when food is involved. These girls are incredibly food motivated and become very excited at feeding time. They’ll eagerly push their way to the front, and if they think you have food, they’ll do everything they can to get it. For this reason, it’s important that their adopter understands their enthusiasm around food and manages feeding times carefully.

Their excitement doesn’t stop at rushing over for treats. Dottie and Daisy can become quite boisterous when hay is being put out, swinging their horns around with excitement while you remove strings from hay bales. They may also use their horns to try to reach food they’re after, so it’s important to exercise caution during feeding and never carry food into their paddock unnecessarily.

Despite their food obsession, they’re not fussy eaters. Their diet consists of grass and hay, but they certainly won’t say no to a special treat of bread or Weet-Bix.

Dottie and Daisy would thrive in a spacious home where they have plenty of room to graze, explore, and express their larger-than-life personalities. They are best suited to adopters who appreciate confident cattle and understand how to safely manage animals that are highly food motivated.
