Most farm animals have a longer life expectancy than many domestic pets. Various breeds of farm animals can live beyond 20 years, which means their owners must be prepared for a long-term commitment that includes providing appropriate feed, meeting ongoing healthcare needs, and ensuring that they have suitable living conditions. Sadly, for these animals, their owners’ life circumstances can change, leaving them in need of a new home.
Rehoming a beloved companion is a difficult reality that many pet owners face, whether it be a domestic or farm animal. While some owners may sadly give up on their companions, others will make every effort to ensure that these animals are loved just as much—or even more—in their next home.
Murray is being rehomed due to the sale of property, not because of any fault of his own.
When his current family arrived at a dairy farm to adopt a calf, they found little Murray, only a week old, on the ground and desperately unwell. In an industry that often views male calves as mere byproducts, they were told to simply take a different calf instead. But his family knew they couldn’t leave him behind. They took him home and carefully nursed him back to health.
Thanks to their unconditional love, Murray survived. He has spent his life safe and cherished, and now, thanks to the kind support and generosity of our donors, ‘Til The Cows is able to offer a safe rehoming service for animals like Murray, ensuring they do not end up in the wrong hands and will continue to be cherished as companions, not commodities. 🤎

Meet Murray, a quiet, friendly giant of the paddock.
Hand-raised, Murray has grown into an incredibly gentle steer who absolutely loves human company. If you spend time with him in the paddock, you can expect him to wander over to greet you with a friendly lick. He is more than happy to stand quietly while you brush his coat, soaking up all the attention you have to offer.
Murray is famously easy to please and doesn’t dislike anything – especially when it comes to food! His absolute favourite treat is bread, and he’s known to have a rather adventurous palate (he once cheekily ate a pair of undies right off the clothesline!).
Despite his massive size, Murray is a gentle soul who gets along well with everyone. He currently shares his paddock peacefully with sheep and lambs, and he has previously lived happily alongside horses and other cattle. He is wonderfully adaptable and would fit perfectly into a mixed-species mini herd, or make a wonderful companion for another placid steer or cow.

❤️ Personality: A very large, gentle, and quiet Holstein steer. Loves being brushed, hand-fed, and giving kisses. Gets along with sheep, lambs, horses, and cattle.
🌱 Diet: Murray is fed lucerne hay and all-purpose pellets. He loves bread as a special treat!
🤎 Documentation: All adopters receive an adoption letter and an animal profile that outlines all medical treatments the animal has received.
❓ Support: We offer pre- and post-adoption support to adopters so you are never alone.
✅ Biosecurity: We adhere to biosecurity obligations, which include having a PIC number, NLIS tags, and completing the necessary movement paperwork (eNVD and movement record). We can provide advice and support throughout this process.
🚚 Transport to be determined upon adoption application. But depending on distnace, Murray’s owner has offered to support the adoption by transporting Murray to his new home.
