Can you welcome Homer, Odi, Dusty, Charlie & Woody into your home?

Most farm animals have a longer life expectancy than many domestic pets. Various breeds of farm animals can live beyond 20 years, which means their owners must be prepared for a long-term commitment that includes providing appropriate feed, meeting ongoing healthcare needs, and ensuring that they have suitable living conditions. Sadly, for these animals, their owner’s life circumstances can change, leaving them in need of a new home.

Rehoming a beloved companion is a difficult reality that many pet owners face, whether it be domestic or farm animals.  While some owners may sadly give up on their companions, others will make every effort to ensure that these animals are loved just as much—or even more—in their next home.

Homer, Odi, Dusty, Charlie and Woody are being rehomed due to unforeseen reasons, not because of any fault of their own.

Farm animals are at a high risk of being rehomed to someone who views them as commodities. Thanks to the kind support and generosity of donors, Til The Cows is able to offer a safe rehoming service for farm animals, ensuring they do not end up in the wrong hands and will continue to be cherished as companions, not commodities.

Meet Homer, Odi, Dusty, Charlie & Woody. This gorgeous herd is looking for a forever home where they can continue living the safe, happy life they deserve.

These boys can be adopted in bonded pairs, a trio or as a mini herd.

Homer and Odi arrived together and were our first two steers. They are both 4-year-old desexed Jersey steers. These two must stay together.

A year later, Dusty and Charlie joined the family. They are both 3 years old, with Charlie being a desexed steer and Dusty a desexed Ayrshire steer. These two must stay together.

A couple of years later, Woody arrived after the family who had originally rescued him from slaughter realised he needed bovine companionship, as he had been living alone. Woody is now 5 years old and has thrived as part of the herd. Woody can be adopted with Dusty and Charlie, or Homer and Odi.

All five steers have been hand-raised and absolutely love human company. They are calm, gentle steers who enjoy being patted and spending quiet time with their people. It’s not unusual to sit with them in the paddock while they peacefully relax in the sunshine.

They also have a playful side. They’ll happily follow people around the property, often kicking up their heels and gallivanting alongside dog walks. They have never shown aggression.

Dusty, the Ayrshire, is the shyest of the group and takes a little longer to build trust, but once he does, he loves a gentle scratch on the head.

Woody is the biggest character. As the only steer without horns, he’s the most playful and occasionally forgets just how big he is. His excitement is never aggressive – he simply skips around with enthusiasm. If he gets a little too excited, a clap of the hands or a gentle wave of a stick is all it takes for him to give you some space.

The boys have happily shared a paddock with two gelding horses for many years without any issues. They are also accustomed to dogs. If the dogs ignore them, the steers are completely uninterested. If a dog wants to play, the boys usually get the “zoomies” and run away rather than towards them.

These beautiful boys are absolute treasures and would make a wonderful addition to a home that can offer them plenty of space, companionship and a safe place to live out their lives together.
