Lenny and Louie were rescued alongside seven other calves. Each precious soul was facing on-farm euthanasia, a grim fate that they were lucky to escape.
Lenny and Louie were born into this world as the byproduct of their mother’s milk production – their life worth nothing more, a future uncertain.
Just like humans, female cows need to give birth to produce milk. As a result, each year in Australia, over 400,000 calves are born on dairy farms and are deemed as “waste” or “surplus”.
Male calves are often “disposed of” on the farm or sent on a truck to a slaughterhouse within the first few weeks of their life, as they offer little financial gain to a farmer, as they cannot be used for future breeding or milk production.
This is the heartbreaking reality faced by thousands of calves during calving season, day in and day out, on dairy farms across Australia.
Fate had different plans for Lenny and Louie. Rescued by our team, they were no longer facing a grim end to life.
Lenny and Louie are lucky to now be safe in short-term foster care. Thanks to the generosity of donors, two more precious lives have now been spared.
Now healthy and feeling cared for, Louie and Lenny are ready to find their forever home where they will be loved as companions, not commodities.

Meet Lenny and Louie, who came into care as part of a 7-calf rescue from a dairy farm, and from the very beginning, they’ve had each other to lean on.

Louie is the confident one. The first one to the bottle every time, strong, eager, and always ready to take on the world. He’s the brave little leader of the duo.
Lenny, on the other hand, is a bit quieter and gentler at first, but give him a moment and you’ll see his beautiful nature shine through. Once he warms up, he’s just as loving and always close by Louie’s side.
Together, they balance each other perfectly: one bold, one soft, but both completely devoted to one another.
